What's the problem?
- Expensive and limited shipping options is the number one reason why £3.5 trillion worth of merchandise is abandoned in digital carts each year.
- 1 in 5 European consumers will abandon their digital cart if their preferred shipping option is unavailable.
- 63% of people abandon their digital carts because of expensive shipping.
Cart abandonment is e-commerce's biggest problem, and shipping lies at the heart of it.
Online stores often only have one standard shipping option at checkout, especially the smaller businesses who don't have the ability to manage several different courier accounts. But, in a world of Amazon Prime, it's critical to offer a wide range of shipping options at great prices.
What's the solution?
If you sell on Shopify, you can instantly show all of Mule's courier services to your customers on your checkout page. Immediately, your checkout page is populated with multiple cost-effective shipping services. For example, instead of just showing this:
You could show this:
Take a guess which one your customers will prefer ;)
How to get set up?
- You must be on an annual plan with Shopify or have a specific subscription for calculated rates with Shopify in order to get access to this. Please get in contact with Shopify support to get more information
- Make sure you have added Metafields to each of the products where you would like to show Mule's calculated rates. The metafields allow the system to calculate how heavy and large the shipment is, so an accurate shipping quote can be given.
- To find out how to set up Metafields, see our help article
- Go to Settings
- Click Shipping and Delivery
- Click Create new profile
- Click Add products
- Select all of the products that you would like calculated rates to apply to
- Click Create shipping zone
- Click Rest of world
- Name it Mule shipping zone
- Click Add rate
- Select Mule.app (rates provided by app)
- If you do not see this, navigate to the web app
- Under the Settings cog, go to Shops
- Click Reconnect on the Shopify button and follow the steps to reconnect your store
- Choose the services you would like to show to your customers
- (C) at the end means the courier will collect from your sender address
- (D) at the end means you will need to drop off the parcels at the relevant drop off points
- If you select the box Automatically show new shipping services to customers when they become available, then all new shipping services we add will automatically show on your checkout page
- e.g. if we add FedEx to the platform, then all FedEx services will be shown on your checkout
- We would advise to not check this box, we will email you when new services are available and you can enable whichever ones you would like.
- Add in any handling fees that you would like, these will increase the prices that Mule shows to your customers
- Click Done
- If you do not see this, navigate to the web app
- Click Save
- If you want to show our international rates, go to Settings and make sure you have enabled sales to international Markets otherwise your customers will not be shown international shipping options
- If international markets are not enabled, click Add market and select the countries or regions you would like to ship to
- Make sure to add Backup Shipping Rates
- In Settings, go to Shipping and Delivery
- Activate backup shipping rates
- If our system ever goes down (very rare) then you will still show your customers some shipping options
Test it
- Add a product to your basket and enter in a random address
- Click Continue to shipping
- Mule's courier services should be displayed
- Select one of the courier services and pay for it (if you get in contact with us, we can refund you for the shipment as long as you don't actually send the parcel)
- Go to the web app and reload the page. Your test order should appear (you may have to wait for a few seconds for it to be pulled through).
- Click on the checkbox on the left and the order weight, dimensions and courier should be pre-filled.
- Add your parcel to the Basket and pay
